Homestead Communications This internship offers a student a unique opportunity for PR, nonprofit and sole proprietor experience. it will also give a student consistent exposure to PRSA-WV Chapter members, many of whom have hiring responsibilities. In addition, they could do much of the work from dorm/home. Scope of work Seeking intern taking “for credit” class for sole practice focusing on public relations and non-profit association management. Intern must possess strong writing skills and familiarity with InDesign, Contribute, Word and Microsoft Access. After initial orientation, much of the work can be done from dorm/home, with outcomes submitted electronically. Agency is responsible for creating monthly newsletters for two clients, one four pages, one 20 pages, plus 8-12-page quarterly newsletter for each of two other clients. WebWeb site maintenance is also needed for a number of clients on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis across different platforms. On proof of expertise, intern would be responsible for much of this work. Additional work may cover a variety of areas, all currently being done by agency owner. Presence in Charleston would be required once a month for attendance at PRSA-WV Chapter meeting, cost paid by agency owner. Must have own transportation, computer/internet capabilities and flexible schedule.

AARP WV Currently enrolled as a student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher-working on an undergraduate degree in social work, gerontology, liberal arts, journalism, communications or political science. Will consider all degrees and work related experience; Able to work business hours, part-time 10 or more hours weekly; Experience using social media channels like Facebook, Twitter & You Tube. Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online search tools; Research skills including internet and data base searches; Able to commit to AARP West Virginia thru internship term beginning September/October 2015 and ending December 2015. The internship may be extended into 2016 by mutual agreement.

Position Responsibilities Together with staff and volunteers, this intern supports AARP WV’s efforts to engage West Virginians age 50+, especially AARP members, in our mission to enhance the quality of life for all as we age. This paid internship position focuses on Advocacy and Outreach through research, event support, volunteer program support and social media. There will be a strong emphasis on relationship building within the Morgantown/Clarksburg area. Working with the AARP Public Policy Institute and state agencies in West Virginia to gather and compile data in support of assigned projects. Assist and develop a plan to broaden and refine a social media strategy for the Morgantown/Clarksburg area; Help identify and support outreach and member engagement events in the Greater Morgantown area – including event planning and logistical support pre and post event; Help Identify three (3) suitable non-sports related discount opportunities in the Morgantown/Clarksburg area; Help to develop outreach and recruitment strategies for potential AARP volunteers; Recruit three (3) new volunteers from the Morgantown/Clarksburg area. The WMI Experience for Media and Public Relations Students The Washington Media Institute (WMI) is the premier experiential media program for students interested in a career in the media. Students intern four days a week at top media organizations across DC, all while taking a series of individualized seminar courses and earning full course-load of transferable credit. Students are eligible to earn at least 12 hours of credit during the fall and spring semesters and at least 6 hours of credit during the summer session.
Washington, D.C. has internship opportunities ranging from political media to documentaries and everything in between. Simply put, you can’t get the same experience anywhere but Washington.
